Juba- The Ministry of Health (MoH) and World Health Organization (WHO) have signed the health systems strengthening output agreement component of the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP) today, ushering in a new era of strengthened healthcare across the country.

Juba - As we mark World Health Day 2025 under the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” South Sudan stands at a defining moment in its pursuit of equitable health for all. Nowhere is the urgency more evident than in the area of maternal and newborn health, where mortality rates remain unacceptably high, and progress is hindered by persistent system-level gaps.

Juba - Chief Amet Mabior Yel, a 72-year-old traditional leader in Madhol Payam, Awiel East County, could not hold back his excitement. Dressed in his traditional chieftaincy attire and singing at the top of his voice while performing his favorite traditional dance, Yel was witnessing a historic moment in his lifetime —the grand opening of Madhol hospital - located just meters away from his house.

Juba - The ongoing conflict in Sudan has forced more than 160,000 people to seek refuge in South Sudan since mid-December 2024, placing immense pressure on an already overstretched healthcare system. Renk County, particularly its border town and surrounding villages, has become the primary destination for these displaced individuals, exacerbating existing health challenges.

Juba - To improve capacity for treatment of infectious diseases and mitigate the risk of cross-border disease transmission, the Ministry of Health, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO), has established and handed over an Infectious Diseases facility in the border of Nimule to the Magwi County Health Department.

The new 15 bed capacity facility is designed to bolster the country’s healthcare system by providing necessary resources and infrastructure to manage infectious diseases effectively and boosting infection prevention and control.

Juba - Achol Ajak, a 35-year-old resident of Bor is grateful that her family is now vaccinated and protected from cholera. Ajak stated that she was one of the first individuals to receive the cholera vaccine on the inaugural day of the cholera vaccination campaign launch in Bor South County, South Sudan.

“We feel safer now, the threat of cholera has diminished. My family and I are deeply grateful for the care we have received and extend our thank the health workers for their dedication to our community.” said Ajak

Juba: South Sudan has launched an ambitious nationwide campaign that aims to vaccinate an impressive 3.47 million children aged 0 to 59 months against polio, utilizing the innovative Oral Polio Vaccine type 2 (nOPV2).

Juba, 7 February 2025—Today the Ministry of Health has declared a mpox outbreak in Juba, Central Equatoria State. This declaration follows a confirmation mpox Case by the National Public Health Laboratory on 6 February 2025.

The WHO Country Office has achieved a significant milestone by successfully training 28 formally appointed Preventing and Responding to Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PRSEAH) focal points from the Ministry of Health (MoH) at the national and state levels. This initiative has expanded the network of dedicated PRSEAH part-time focal points from WHO and MoH to 55.
