As part of the continued support to the Malawi Government in the cholera outbreak response, the World Health Organization (WHO) has activated its Emergency Medical Teams (EMTs) network following the recent request for assistance from the government.
Lilongwe - The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated additional cholera supplies for Malawi government to support in the ongoing cholera outbreak response that has affected all the 29 districts of the country. WHO Representative for Malawi Dr Neema Rusibamayila Kimambo masde the official handover of the cholera supplies to the Minister of Heath Honorable Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda MP in Lilongwe, at the Ministry of Health Headquarters.
Malawi today kicked off oral cholera vaccination reactive campaign targeting 2.9 million people aged one year and above. The reactive campaign is aimed at halting the ongoing transmission and control cholera outbreak that has affected all the 29 districts of the country. The campaign will run from 28 November to 2 December in 13 high burden districts.
A consignment of 2.9 million doses of Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) has arrived in Malawi at a critical time as cholera continues to spread across Malawi. OCV is recommended for use during cholera outbreak to contain outbreaks and to limit the spread of the outbreak into new areas.
