Yola, 10 August, 2023 - Gender-based violence and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse(GBV/SEA) is a major threat to public health.
As such, the World Health Organization (WHO) is supporting the government of Adamawa state to provide quality care for survivors of Gender Based Violence, especially those receiving humanitarian aid.

Abuja, 7 August, 2023 - Before her wedding plans in 2009, Floral Okon was unaware of what Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) was.  Hence as part of the church pre-wedding requirements, she gladly went with her fiancé for an HIV test in a health facility.

“As part of the pre-wedding requirement in my church, my fiancé and I were required to conduct HIV screening. 
I recall exclaiming wonderful when told at the health facility that my result was positive because I thought positive was a good result,” she recounted. 

Abuja, 20 July, 2023 - Aimed at scaling up COVID-19 vaccine service delivery amongst higher priority risk groups and strengthening health systems in the country, the Government of Nigeria in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), and partners have launched the Canada Global Initiative for Vaccine Equity (CanGIVE) Grant.

The CanGIVE grant is a two-year grant of $9,261,920 (CAD) from Global Affairs Canada to WHO to improve COVID-19 vaccine delivery and integrate vaccination into routine health services in Nigeria. 

Abuja, 12 July, 2023 - Aligning with the health transformative agenda of the government of Nigeria, the World Health Organization (WHO) is reviewing its 3rd generation Country Cooperation Strategy 2018-2022 (CSS III) to identify game-changing strategic directions and alliances to support the country in strengthening its health system, achieving public health impact and better health outcomes in the next five years. 

Abuja, 14 June, 2023 - Donating blood as a voluntary non-remunerated donor is becoming a pastime for 32 years old Charles Obikwelu, who donated for the first time on 15 June 2022 during a blood drive conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), in partnership with the United Nations Clinic and the National Blood Service Commission(NBSC).
 
The drive was part of activities commemorating the 2022 World Blood Donor Day.

Since then, he has donated voluntarily three (3) times at the National Blood Bank in Abuja.

Abuja, 9 June, 2023 - The Chief of Staff to the United Nations Secretary-General (COS), Mr Earle Courtenay Rattray, has applauded Nigeria on impressive integrated health delivery services adopted by the country in delivering essential healthcare services to its citizens. 

Mr Rattray also appreciated the commitment of UN staff in serving the course of sustainable development and health security in Nigeria. 

Owerri, 6 June, 2023 - In 2020, approximately 50,000 children below age one in Imo State, South East Nigeria, missed the uptake of the Pentavalent Vaccine due to COVID-19 disruption. 
A single dose of the Pentavalent vaccine is expected to have been taken at the sixth week of age. The Pentavalent vaccine protects a child from 5 life-threatening diseases – Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b). 

The World Health Organization welcomes a new funding commitment made by the United Kingdom’s Department of Health and Social Care to support Nigeria in strengthening her health workforce in the vision of achieving Universal Health Coverage

The grant amounting to £2 will cover two years period to support the government of Nigeria to optimize the performance, quality, and impact of the health workforce through evidence-informed policies and strategies.
