African Vaccination Week Launched in The Gambia

The African Vaccination Week (AVW) which is scheduled to be observed during the last week of April every year was launched by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with WHO, UNICEF and partners at the Atlantic Hotel in Banjul on 3rd September 2014.
 
The theme for this year 2014 was, “Vaccination a shared responsibility”, and its slogan was vaccinated communities; Healthy communities.

Polio with 950 vaccination teams covering a target population of 416740 for children 0 – 5 months. Thanks to the efforts of the national authorities and the support of the polio coalition being spearheaded by the World Health Organization. 

It will be recalled that the Minister for Health and Social Welfare Hon. Omar Sey spoke optimistically about the campaign during the launching of the 1st round (19th – 22nd September 2014), based on the country’s performance in attaining high coverage in similar campaigns.

Gambia commemorates World Hepatitis Day 2015

Banjul, The Gambia, 1st September 2015 - On 28 July 2015, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), Medical Research Council (MRC) and other partners commemorated World Hepatitis Day under the theme: “Prevent Hepatitis – Act now”.  The theme this year focuses on the prevention of hepatitis B and C that affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide, causing acute and chronic liver disease and killing close to 1.5 million people every year.

The Gambia observes African Vaccination Week 2015

Banjul, The Gambia, 1st September 2015 - The African Vaccination Week (AVW), which is traditionally observed during the last week of April every year, was officially launched in the Gambia at the Atlantic Hotel in Banjul on Wednesday 28th July 2015. The event, which was a joint effort of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and other partners, was launched by the Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Hon. Alhaji Omar Sey. The theme for this year 2015 is, “Closing the immunization Gap”.
