World Health Day is celebrated every 7th April. This year’s theme is “My Health, My Right”. Through this theme, Uganda recognizes that the achievement of Universal Health Coverage requires that people have access to affordable, equitable, good quality, and sustainable health care.

This theme is therefore timely as Uganda continues to implement various interventions to meet the needs of its population based on our commitment to ensuring that our people have access to quality healthcare without facing financial hardship by 2030.

Today, Uganda joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Health Day with the theme "My health, my right". This theme highlights that the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is a fundamental right of every human being irrespective of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition. The right to health for all people means that everyone should have access to the health services they need, when and where they need them, without suffering financial hardship.

Dr Olive Sentumbwe Mugisa is a wife and mother of four. A Doctor of Medicine with a master's degree in obstetrics and gynecology, Olive is an exceptional Ugandan woman who has worked hard to achieve her career goals.

Over two hundred Scientists and Research and Development (R&D) focal points gathered in Uganda to tackle the pressing need to enhance research readiness for potential filovirus outbreaks across Africa. Entebbe, 24th – 27th October 2023 - The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) in collaboration with the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) has completed a four-day Africa regional preparatory meeting for the 10th session of the Conference of Parties (COP 10) to the WHO FCTC and the 3rd meeting of the parties to the protocol to eliminate illicit trade in tobacco products (MOP3).

Malinga Elizabeth, a mother of 2, has been one of the key players in Uganda's drive to improve the health of its population. For 37 years, she worked alongside the WHO Country Office as Personal Assistant to the WHO Representative and Human Resources Assistant.

"I joined WHO when I was only 26. Full of curiosity, I never knew I was going to spend most of my professional life there. Says Elizabeth Malinga, "Today, as I retire, I am happy to know that I have contributed to the improvement of the health system in Uganda.
