Kenya Commemorates World Mental Health Day 2010
Kilindini 29th October 2010 -- Kenya commemorated the 19th World Mental Health Day at the Port Reitz district hospital in Kilindini District of Coast Province. The commemoration brought together officials from the Ministry of Medicals Services, the Coast Provincial Health Management Team (PHMT) and officials from the Prot Reitz District Hospital, the only mental heath center in the province.
This year the day was commemorated under the theme: "Mental Health and Long Term Physical Illness: The Need for Continued and Integrated Care." The occasion well attended by the public was marked by numerous advocacy and education stints by various youth and drama groups depicting the challenges facing mental health in the county and in particular drug and substance abuse associated disorders in the Coastal region.
