Coordination Meeting Conducted at National Polio Laboratory in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
A coordination meeting was conducted at the National Polio Laboratory in Addis Ababa on April 5, 2015. The participants of this meeting included the Head of the Polio and Measles Laboratory, senior laboratory experts, and staff from WHO. The purpose of the meeting was to review the 2015 polio and measles laboratory performance.
During the meeting, the performance of the polio and measles laboratory in 2015 was presented and discussed. The major achievements noted included huge improvement in timeliness of feedback from the laboratory, commencement of intratypic differentiation testing for polio isolates at the National Polio Laboratory, renovation of sample reception and laboratory processing spaces and the opening of sub-national measles labs in Hawassa and Bahir Dar. It was learnt that the latter requires further strengthening through frequent supervisions, training and equipment supplies. Accordingly, action points were developed and updates will presented on a quarterly basis.
