The WHO country office produces a monthly newsletter to share information on what the country office does to support the national health sector agenda, in line with the country cooperation strategy.
The February issue contains special edition on WHO 2012 support towards Guinea Worm Eradication Program in Ethiopia. The Federal Ministry of Health demonstrated ownership and commitment to the Guinea Worm Eradication Program. The ministry has strong support from World Health Organization and other partners such as The Carter Center, CDC and UNICEF. In 2012 it was possible to achieve a significant reduction of annual incidence of Guinea worm cases by half compared to 2011. This has shown a green light to interrupt the transmission and subsequently prepare the country for certification as Guinea worm free in 2013/14. This article highlights mainly on WHO’s 2012 input to the successful achievement of the FMoH Guinea Worm Eradication Program The WHO country office wishes to take this opportunity to acknowledge the excellent collaboration with the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and thank partners.
