WHO Regional Director for Africa begins official visit to Nigeria
Abuja, 11 October 2017 - The WHO Regional Director for Africa Dr Matshidiso Moeti, will be in Nigeria on a 3-day official visit from 12-14 October, 2017
During her visit, Dr Moeti will hold discussions with Honourable Minister of Health, high-ranking government officials and key stakeholders particularly on health development in Nigeria and the African region in general.
A statement issued by the Professor Isaac Adewole, Minister of Health stated that: “The visit will also strengthen collaboration between the World Health Organization and the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
According to him, interactions during her stay in Nigeria will be centered on areas that require technical support from WHO including the broader strengthening of the health system to achieve the health related Sustainable Development Goals within the context of revitalization of the Primary Health Care (PHC) in Nigeria.
This is the third time that the WHO Regional Director would be visiting Nigeria in 2 years. While previous visits were closely related to Polio Eradication Initiative, Dr Moeti will on her current mission, flag-off a Polio/Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) integrated campaign for the northeast and also witness first-hand, the role of WHO in the humanitarian response.
