The World Health Organization hands over vehicles and equipment to the Ministry of health and social welfare
On the 17th May, 2013 -- The WHO Country Office handed over to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, vehicles and equipment to support data management and implementation of the Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Programme in the country.
The items handed over included: 1 Vehicle, 1motorcycle and 5 laptop computers. The value of all these items is USD 48,119.56 equivalent to Tshs 78,338,643.68.
The occasion was witnessed by the Ag. Permanent Secretary, Mr Danford Makalla; Directors of Units and Senior Technical Officers of the Ministry; and WHO Country Office staff.
In his handing over speech, the WHO Representative, Dr. Rufaro Chatora highlighted the current focus for the World Health Organization in NTDs prevention, control and elimination, and assured commitment to support the battle against NTDs in the country. He stated that the vehicle will support the NTD Programme central office in the ongoing epidemiological and entomological evaluations for monitoring progress in Onchorcerciasis control and elimination.
He added that the Motorcycle, intended for Makete district, will support supervision, data collection and report submission for Mass Drug administration and related activities. With regards to the 5 laptops handed over, Dr. Chatora explained that they will be used to strengthen NTD Data Management for Mbeya Region, Mbeya DC, Chunya, Kyela, Mbarali and NTD Regional Office.
In his acceptance speech, the Ag. Permanent Secretary for Health and Social Welfare said that the vehicles and equipment handed over will complement the country’s efforts in the fight against NTDs in Tanzania. He further expressed appreciation to the World Health Organization (WHO) for the timely support to the Tanzanian Government and assured that the vehicles and equipment will be maintained and used for the intended purposes.
