Ethiopia commemorated World Tuberculosis Day (WTD) with renewed resolve, hosting a series of events, including a TB Research Conference held in the capital, Addis Ababa, from March 22nd to 23rd, 2024, to raise awareness about the global fight against Tuberculosis (TB).

The Ethiopia National Center of the Africa Health Observatory Platform on Health Systems and Policies (AHOP), in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) and the World Health Organization (WHO), successfully conducted a "Policy Dialogue on Engagement of the Private Health Sector in the Delivery of Tertiary Healthcare Services in Ethiopia."

Ethiopia is stepping up its efforts to tackle the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) with a comprehensive approach involving government agencies, healthcare professionals, and international partners. Led by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ethiopia Public Health Institute (EPHI), the country is implementing robust surveillance systems and collaborative initiatives to combat AMR.

In the remote reaches of Simada district, North-West Ethiopia, amidst rugged terrain and hard-to-reach communities, a quiet hero emerges in the fight against disease outbreaks. Meet Melkamu Alemayehu, a 35-year-old public health practitioner whose unwavering commitment to his community has become a beacon of resilience in the face of adversity.

Since the first reported cholera outbreak in Ethiopia on August 26, 2022, the Ministry of Health and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) have continued to respond to the ongoing outbreak with technical and financial support from WHO and other stakeholders.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has taken a significant step towards combating cholera in Ethiopia by setting up 17 standard cholera treatment centers across the country. This initiative, which is critical for saving lives, ensures that those affected receive rapid and effective care and treatment.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  In a remarkable move towards strengthening its defenses against potential pandemics, Ethiopia officially launched the Ethiopian Pandemic Multi-Sectoral Prevention, Preparedness, and Response Project (EPPR) on Monday, January 29, 2024. 

The Ethiopian country office of the World Health Organization (WHO Ethiopia) has taken a significant step towards addressing workplace harassment and sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) in the health sector. 

In line with this, WHO Ethiopia successfully conducted three sessions of Training of Trainers (ToT) on National Health Sector Prevention and Response to Workplace Harassment and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (NHS-PRWPH & SEA) guidelines.
