Dr Owen Laws Kaluwa, Representative of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Ghana, has asked African governments to increase investments in research and development of new medicines, especially in the conduct of clinical trials.

WHO is supporting Ghana’s Ministry of Health in response to an outbreak of a febrile illness in a boarding school The initial case was reported from Kumasi Academy High School (KASHS), Asokore Mampong Municipal, Kumasi on 29 November 2017

Dr Felix Anyah, the Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-bu teaching hospital has won the Health Award at Impact Africa Summit held on 30 November, 2017 at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra, Ghana, under the theme ”Sustainable Development Goals-Building Partnerships”.

WHO has reaffirmed its support for initiatives and networks for harmonization and convergence of regulatory practices including establishment of the African Medicines Agency; as well as provide training through the WHO Global Learning Opportunities, WHO Collaborating Centres and Regional Centres of Regulatory Excellence.

The Honourable Deputy Minister for Health, Mr Aboagye Gyedu, has called for women and girls to be empowered with easy and equitable access to knowledge and resources to strengthen their capacity to prevent type 2 diabetes in their families and better safeguard their own health. He made this statement during this year’s World Diabetes Day Celebration at Kyebi in the Eastern Region of Ghana under the theme “Women and Diabetes-our right to a healthy future”.

Mr, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, the Deputy Minister of Health, has urged all Ghanaians to seek advice from qualified health practitioners before taking antibiotics. He emphasized that the threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) was ever increasing with serious implications on health indicators.

A four day regional training of trainers on Public Health Events Management in Air Transport in WHO African Region was held at the Forest Hotel, Dodowa in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, from 6-10 November, 2017.

The government of Ghana joined the rest of the world in commemorating this year’s World Mental Health Day under the theme: “Mental Health in the Workplace”

A grand durbar was organised to crown the dual programs World Mental Health Day and Mental Health Week at Jubilee Park on Saturday 12th October 2017. The durbar was preceded by a float on the principal streets in the Takoradi town-ship by students from Tertiary and Senior High Schools.
