WHO Zimbabwe 2023 Annual Report

In 2023, WHO Zimbabwe continued to play a pivotal role in safeguarding the health and well-being of the people of Zimbabwe. Through our collaborative efforts with the government, partners, and communities, significant strides were made in addressing pressing health challenges and promoting health equity.

Key achievements included;

Strengthening health systems – WCO supported the Government of Zimbabwe in enhancing the capacity and resilience of the health system, ensuring equitable access to essential health services.

Combatting infectious diseases - Efforts were intensified to combat major infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, reducing the burden on the population.

Promoting noncommunicable disease prevention - Various strategies were implemented to address the growing burden of noncommunicable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Advancing maternal and child health - WCO worked to improve maternal and child health outcomes, reducing infant and maternal mortality rates.

Responding to emergencies - Timely and effective responses to public health emergencies was provided, particularly during the cholera outbreaks.

Advocating for health equity - WHO Zimbabwe advocated for health equity, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status or geographic location, has access to quality healthcare.

As we look ahead, WHO Zimbabwe remains committed to serving as a trusted partner to the Government and people of Zimbabwe, working towards a healthier and more equitable future for all.
