Bauchi, 2 August, 2021 - In a bid to curb the on-going cholera outbreak in Bauchi State and possibly the northeast geopolitical zone of Nigeria, the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with health authorities in Bauchi state has deployed Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) in combination with other community control measures to stop the transmission of the disease and save lives. A total of 710,212 persons one year and above have been vaccinated with the OCV in the five-day reactive campaign that ended on 28 July 2021 in the first cycle.

Abuja, 29 July, 2021 - To build an effective food safety system for Nigerians, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) launched a Unified Food Safety Training Manuals for capacity building of food vendors, food handlers, food manufacturers and plethora of personnel in the entire food supply chain in the country. The manual is in line with one of the objective (3.1) of the National Policy for Food System and Implementation Strategy (NPFSIS).

Akure, 26 July, 2021 - The World Health Organization (WHO) has supported Ondo State to integrate COVID-19 sample collection into the essential health care services. The intervention has led to an increase in the number of samples tested from an average of 70 to 321 per week, since the integration. 

Abuja, 21 July, 2021 - Response to the coronavirus pandemic notwithstanding, data indicate that there has been an increase in annual tuberculosis (TB) case notification due to strategic intervention by  the  National Tuberculosis, Buruli Ulcer and Leprosy Control Program (NTBLCP), in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) and other stakeholders working on TB control and elimination in Nigeria.

Abuja, 9 July, 2021 - The humanitarian crisis in Nigeria’s North-eastern BAY (Borno, Adamawa and Yobe) remains protracted, with an estimated eight million people at risk of displacement, impoverishment and threats of violence. As a result, WHO has resolved to maintain the current status of grade 3 health emergency declared in the region since 2016.

Calabar, 2 July 2021 - Few months since the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX facility, the global initiative to ensure equitable vaccine distribution, internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Adagom refugee community in Cross River State received their first dose of the Astra Zeneca vaccine as part of the drive to leave no one behind in the fight against the pandemic.

Mr Elias Tako, the Chairman Adagom Refugees community, was not hesitant to receive the vaccine saying the vaccine will protect everyone against the virus.

Abuja, 22nd June, 2021 - The World Health Organization Country Representative (WR) Dr Walter Kazadi Mulombo has commended His Excellency, Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike on signing the Contributory Health Protection Programme Bill into law.

A statement issued by Special Assistant to the Governor on Media Kelvin Ebiri, indicated that, the Governor, who signed the bill into law at the Government House, Port Harcourt, on 21 June 2021, said with the law, residents and people of the state who want health insurance could now participate in the scheme.
