Dr Sambo to host foreign envoys in Brazzaville on Friday

9 February 2011 - Around 70 Heads of diplomatic missions and bilateral and multilateral agencies accredited to Congo will gather at the WHO Regional Office for Africa (WHO/AFRO) in Brazzaville on Friday 11 February for a meeting with the WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Luis Gomes Sambo.

The one-day meeting is being organized by WHO as part of the organization’s continuing efforts to strengthen ongoing partnerships with stakeholders for Africa’s sustainable health development.

Delegates will be briefed on among other things: the mandate, progress made by Member States towards the attainment of the health-related Millennium Development Goals; the critical role of part-nerships and the Strategic Directions for the work of WHO in the African Region for the period 2010–2015.

Friday’s meeting will also provide participants an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences on how the health sector can capitalize on new and emerging opportunities to improve health outcomes.

The first ever meeting between WHO/AFRO and the Brazzaville-based diplomatic corps was held on 11 December 2006.
