WCO celebrates World Health Day in style
Harare, 7 April 2011 -- To mark World Health Day 2011, WCO Zimbabwe held 2 wellness days and a concert for staff, their dependents, and partners at the Highlands complex. The wellness days, which are being held for the second time, were bigger, with more service providers and open to the UN family and the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare. Some of the people who graced the 2 day commemoration include, The UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Alain Noudehou, The FAO Representative, Mr. Gaoju Han, The UN Physician, Dr Tekou, Dr Timothy Stamps the Health Adviser to the President, Divisional Directors in the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare and other staff from UN agencies and the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare. The commemorations were topped off by a live concert on Friday evening featuring Dudu Manhenga, Chiwoniso Maraire, and Victor Kunonga.
The 7th and 8th April were set apart for staff, their dependents, and partners to know more about their health. Different service providers and practitioners set up tents within the WHO compound and staff were visiting them for free consultation and advice. Among them were dental specialists, allergy specialists, cancer specialists, herbal medicine practitioners, and voluntary counseling and testing. New exhibitors this year included the renowned eye specialist Dr Solomon Guramatunhu, Family Planning services, a fitness trainer and banks who were talking about “healthy banking”. Services that were available included, diabetes screening, blood pressure monitoring, breast cancer screening, HIV counseling and testing, eye tests, and “healthy banking” among others. There was also a mobile blood bank for people to donate life saving blood.
